Whilst virtually all of Karajan's recordings are of merit there are some that must be singled out as prime examples of his art, and here is a set of 8 CDs presenting the most outstanding. The Brahms Symphony No.2, recorded in Vienna in 1949 is a supreme account of this work, as are the Bruckner, Sibelius and Strauss works, all recorded in Berlin. The incomparable Beethoven Triple Concerto has the star line-up of Oistrakh, Rostropovich and Richter, and the last disc in the set is of French music, of which Karajan was a masterly interpreter.
